Reflections on the Impact Investment Summit

In my previous post, I shared a perspective that feels even more relevant after our time at the Summit: in today’s highly competitive funding environment, having a great product is only the starting point. Success depends on clearly articulating the problem being solved, the size of the target market (scale of opportunity) and presenting a credible, executable pathway to market.  Our Investor Page aims is to communicate not just technical feasibility, but real-world relevance provided by our ocean energy-powered, at-sea desalination system.

The small-scale desalination sector provides a compelling market opportunity where Azura strongly fits.   It is an underserved market, where a decentralised, at-sea solutions can play a critical role.

  • Small-scale desalination (<1ML/day) represents ~5% of global desalination capacity.
  • The 5% underpins a ~A$30B annual market, projected to grow to A$60B by 2050 (2.4% CAGR).

There were several key takeaways to share from our participation in the Summit.

  1. Intense Competition for Capital. It’s inspiring to see the breadth and quality of innovation tackling global challenges. At the same time, this creates a highly competitive landscape where aligning with the right investors, and clearly differentiating our solution, is critical to securing meaningful engagement and funding.
  2. Momentum Toward our 1st Commercial Site in Australia. Through the conversations had at the event, we made tangible progress toward establishing our at-sea desalination Site in Australian waters. The conversations and connections from the event strengthened our confidence in both the readiness of the market to support innovative technology like ours.
  3. The Path Forward. We look forward to building on this momentum and continuing discussions with partners and investors who share our commitment to redefining how the world produces freshwater.
